Bulky Bobís provides salaried training positions for local unemployed people
- More than 200 previously unemployed people have been on our 12-month training programmes
- Over 10 years, an average of 80% of our trainees have gone on to permanent jobs
- The measured social benefits to the local community are worth 2.5 times the initial investment in the service
Bulky Bobís provides a range of salaried training programmes: the flagship ďDriving ChangeĒ programme trains people to be professional drivers with the LGV Class II licence and Bulky Bobís also delivers training in warehousing, administration and retail.
Bulky Bobís People and Learning team work intensively with each trainee towards the end of their training programme to jointly identify work opportunities and secure employment. Bulky Bobís training programmes are widely acknowledged to be amongst the most successful in the UK with as many as 94% of an annual cohort of trainees entering sustainable work at the end of the programme.
We measure the ďSocial Return on InvestmentĒ that Bulky Bobís creates through increasing local and national taxation revenues and reducing benefits payments when unemployed trainees find sustainable employment; by reducing expenditure on landfill; by giving low-income shoppers the opportunity to buy great quality pre-loved furniture and to avoid using expensive credit; and by generating revenue from waste sources.
Bulky Bobís has adapted its traditional approach to training to create opportunities for prisoners to gain skills and experience which will make them more employable on release with the ultimate goal of reducing re-offending. Working with Liverpool Prison, the Bulky Bobís Upholstery Workshop offers training and experience in reupholstering furniture. Participants gain skills and experience as well as improving their confidence and motivation.
"Bulky Bob’s won the 2008 National Training Award in the medium employer category. They were recognised for not only offering excellent opportunities for their trainees to gain
qualifications, but providing a truly life changing experience that fully sets those trainees up for sustainable employment in the future."
